st. john's wort herbal oil

st. john's wort infused oil is one of the most magical medicines to prepare. it has bright yellow flowers with sparkly starburst details. there are tiny pinpricks of ink inside the leaves which stain your fingers black as you harvest. and then the powerful medicine inside these brilliant yellow blossoms and inky dark leaves is deep blood red. it just FEELS alive. and it smells amazing. as the sunshine yellow flowers sit in the greenish gold oil they slowly transform the oil to crimson, an iridescent red that actually seems to glow. the plant blossoms and is traditionally harvested at the summer solstice, adding to its potency and power.

this herb has a strong affinity for nerves and traumatic injury to skin or muscle. it can be used on sore muscles or strains, or to treat minor burns. st. john’s wort oil is traditionally used for nerve and systemic pain - sciatica, shingles, or isolated nerve pain. it also has associations with mental wellness and brightness - as if the bright sunny yellow of the flowers brings that disposition into our spirits. it is a perfect oil for stimulating daily body massage to promote free flowing lymph nodes and circulation, especially in the dark winter months. it feels quite warm immediately upon rubbing into the skin and brings a sense of grounding and calm.

this is probably the most used oil in our home.

there are many variations of st. john’s wort out there, but ours truly captures an intensity of hypericum and deep red color i’ve never seen before.

the oil is a deep, opaque crimson and has a unique and enjoyable scent like fresh citrus and sunshine with a little evergreen tang.
