healing and soothing herbs for postpartum mamas. the herbs included in this blend help with perineal healing, soreness, and bleeding, as well as just nurturing and relaxing your body after birth. taking a daily herb bath while honoring your postpartum rest time is a wonderful way to reconnect to your body, soothe and heal your perineum, and just make space for self care during such a raw and sacred time.

st. john's wort infused oil is one of the most magical medicines to prepare. it has bright yellow flowers with sparkly starburst details. there are tiny pinpricks of ink inside the leaves which stain your fingers black as you harvest. and then the powerful medicine inside these brilliant yellow blossoms and inky dark leaves is deep blood red. it just FEELS alive. and it smells amazing. as the sunshine yellow flowers sit in the greenish gold oil they slowly transform the oil to crimson, an iridescent red that actually seems to glow. the plant blossoms and is traditionally harvested at the summer solstice, adding to its potency and power.

this herb has a strong affinity for nerves and traumatic injury to skin or muscle. it can be used on sore muscles or strains, or to treat minor burns. st. john’s wort oil is traditionally used for nerve and systemic pain - sciatica, shingles, or isolated nerve pain. it also has associations with mental wellness and brightness - as if the bright sunny yellow of the flowers brings that disposition into our spirits. it is a perfect oil for stimulating daily body massage to promote free flowing lymph nodes and circulation, especially in the dark winter months. it feels quite warm immediately upon rubbing into the skin and brings a sense of grounding and calm.

this is probably the most used oil in our home.

there are many variations of st. john’s wort out there, but ours truly captures an intensity of hypericum and deep red color i’ve never seen before.

the oil is a deep, opaque crimson and has a unique and enjoyable scent like fresh citrus and sunshine with a little evergreen tang.

tincture for afterbirth pains and bleeding time cramps

this tincture is made with medicinal herbs meant to ease and support the pain of cramps and uterine contraction in the immediate postpartum time.

immediately after birth, contractions begin again to facilitate the important process of the womb shrinking back to its normal size, healing the placental site, and regulating bleeding. this tincture includes crampbark, motherwort, yarrow, and red raspberry leaf to ease the pain of these contractions and support the uterus through this sacred process. these are all herbs with a special affinity for the female reproductive system.
hops are added to encourage relaxation, calm nerves, and support milk production.

this tincture is difficult to make well requiring harvest of the fresh plant at just the right stage, usually lasting just a few days at peak potency. the plants cannot be shipped or stored, the medicine of milky oats must be captured from your own land and made at just the right moment of the season to store the milky green magic for the rest of the year.

this hot chocolate is SO GOOD.

it tastes rich, creamy, and delicious and it has so many healing benefits. it's a wonderful nourishing drink all winter long, and it's absolutely amazing for postpartum healing.
i crafted this drink mix in the last few weeks of my own pregnancy to be exactly what i would want to be nourished by in my postpartum weeks and it has since brought deep loving warmth to many a new mother in the days and weeks after birth. 

here's what's in this blend:

ashwaghanda root is a stress reducing, calming adaptogen that helps with restful sleep, increases nutrient absorption, reduces inflammation and swelling, and brings warming, iron rich nutrients. it also helps with hormone balancing.

marshmallow root soothes mucus membranes and has a special affinity for reproductive tissues, and supports a healthy milk supply. it helps with skin repair and smooths digestion, bringing moisture and balance. supports immune function.
